Lunch Project
The Lunch Project is an attempt by projecthonduras.com and Special Missions Foundation to raise money to provide a nutritious lunch for about 80 boys and girls who are gradually being rescued from a life at the city dump in Tegucigalpa. Most of these children either live in or near the city dump, and all of them have been living largely off the food they find to eat there or the scraps of plastic and metal they manage to collect there and sell for a few lempiras (19 lempiras equals 1 US dollar).
Through the efforts Michael Miller, Jeony Ordonez, and the boys of The Micah Project in Tegucigalpa, these 80 children are receiving an education in make-shift outdoor "classrooms" (under trees) at a soccer field across the street from the entrance to the city dump. Michael, Jeony and the Micah boys arrive each afternoon Monday through Friday ready to provide a few hours of instruction and social interaction (usually a soccer game). They bring along small containers of juice and cookies to distribute to the children.
We would like to find a way to develop a program to ensure that each of the children receive a little more to eat, perhaps a couple of tortillas with beans ("baliadas"), a carton of milk, and an apple or banana... so that at least they know that every afternoon, five days a week, they will have a normal, somewhat filling meal.
We welcome donations to the Lunch Project so that we can start to create a fund to pay for the food and drinks we would like to provide the 80 children, and hopefully more in the near-future.
